As we in the Western world move further toward more cognitive-demanding roles and as our digital lives continue to become more complex and distracting, enhancing our capacity to focus on the job-in-hand has never been greater.

Nootropics are not new and anyone interested in improving their brain health and performance, as I am, will know that an optimised brain and mind can mean the difference between success and failure.

This is a review of Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth – both of which promise to improve your focus, concentration and energy.

What is Gorilla Mind?

Gorilla Mind is a patented blend nootropic that contains a mix of cognitive-enhancing ingredients.

Unlike many others in the category, is not full of caffeine. Although caffeine is a cognitive enhancer, many of today’s nootropics have too much of it which can result in jitters, energy crashes and lack of sleep.

Gorilla Mind comes in two varieties. Gorilla Mind Smooth and Gorilla Mind Rush.

Smooth and Rush have different ingredients and promise to deliver different results depending on the outcome you’re looking to achieve.

Gorilla Mind Smooth vs. Gorilla Mind Rush

What’s the difference between Gorilla Mind Rush and Gorilla Mind Smooth?

The first difference is the ingredients in each. While they share some similar ingredients below you can see where they differ.

Some of the ingredients and their benefits are outlined below.

Phenylethylamine – an essential amino acid which supports the production of neurotransmitters, epinephrine, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

Theacrine – a similar compound to caffeine with studies showing that, unlike caffeine, the body doesn’t become tolerant to it.

Hordenine – a nootropic that occurs naturally in plants with evidence suggesting it may increase alertness and energy.

Caffeine Anhydrous – is dehydrate caffeine and according to research by The International Society of Sports Nutrition, is more effective in enhancing performance in trained athletes than coffee.

Dicaffeine Malate – a form of caffeine which increases focus and energy but reports say that it doesn’t come with the post-caffeine crash.

N-phenethyl Dimethylamine Citrate – a mood-boosting stimulant that increases dopamine and noradrenaline.

2-Aminoisoheptane – often found in pre-workout supplements, it’s a synthetic ingredient which boots energy and suppresses appetite.

Higenamine – a molecule derived from fruits and plants and often used as a fat burner.

In short, GorillaMind comes in both stimulant (Rush) and non-stimulant (Smooth) form, both of which can be beneficial depending on the type of work you’re doing.

How to take Gorilla Mind

Both Gorilla Mind Smooth and Rush come in capsule form.

The suggested usage for both advise taking 3 – 6 capsules in the morning without food or spread throughout the day. Though they do caveat that if you’re a new user then you should start with 1 – 2 capsules first to gauge how sensitive you are.

My advice is if you’re taking Rush for the first time and even if you’re not new to nootropics, start with one capsule first to determine how tolerant you are. If you’re taking Smooth then you’ll get away with taking two from the outset.

Rush is potent and personally, the effects of one capsule were enough for me. This could change asI get used to it.

How long will a bottle of Gorilla Mind last?

This is a ‘how long is a piece of string?’ question.

It all depends on how many capsules per serving you take and how often you take it.

Let’s say you have a busy year ahead and you know you’re going to be working almost every day then a 90 capsule bottle can last you anywhere between two weeks to two months.

It’s unlikely you’ll need to take it every day but instead it will come in useful on the run-up to a big exam, an important new business pitch or when you have to get your head down and grind out the work.

My experience on Gorilla Mind

Similar bottles, different capsules

I’ve been using both Gorilla Mind Rush and Smooth for the last couple of weeks and for me, both have different results.

I know from previous use of nootropics that I’m sensitive to them. A half of a Modafinil is enoughfor me.

Between the two, Smooth creates the best effect on me.

Rush is powerful. Probably too powerful for my low tolerance levels whereas Smooth got me to a mellow place.

That said, a friend of mine is currently studying for his architect exams and he tried both while doing intense revision and he prefers Rush, proving that it all depends on the person.

Gorilla Mind Rush

I tried Gorilla Mind Rush first. I only took one capsule initially and it was during a fast with nothing but black coffee.

It has a similar effect as Modafinil. The intense feeling you get when you sometimes lose yourself in what you’re doing. In my case, it was while I was writing this article.

Other than the intensity I noticed a slightly dry mouth and a loss of appetite.

The most noticeable effect I got from Gorilla Mind Rush was an increase in energy. I went out for a ten-mile walk and had a lot of clarity in my thinking.

It’s not marketed as a pre-workout supplement but it can definitely be used as one. In fact, there’s an article the Gorilla Mind website outlining how to use it as a pre-workout sup.

Gorilla Mind Smooth

After a few of days of trying, Rush I moved on to Smooth and as far as nootropics go, this is one of the best I’ve had.

The suggested use onthe bottle is 3 to 6 capsules in the morning or spread out through the day. I found two or three over the course of the day is my sweet spot.

Like Rush, my mouth got slightly dry from it but in terms of my focus, it was dead-on.

Again, I use it while on a fast of nothing but black coffee and water which has cognitive-enhancing benefits also.

When I’m taking Smooth there are no jitters or urge to go out and move my body. Instead, I feel a sense of calm and clarity as I tap away on my keyboard.

Gorilla Mind Rush vs Smooth. Which one should you use?

This is another ‘how long is a piece of string?’ question and it depends on how receptive you are to either the stimulant or non-stimulant type.

My advice is to order both and see which one works best for you.

Smooth works best for me but my mate much prefers Rush, meaning it depends on the individual and their tolerance level.

If you prefer high energy and intensity then go for Rush but if you prefer mellow and clarity then go for Smooth.

Or just buy both and see for yourself.
